GAS SUNDAY AFTERNOON PERFORMANCES presents...PET SOUNDS
Sunday July 20th, 2014
3:30pm - 4:30pm
What a fabulous afternoon listening to the re-imagined classic Beach Boys' Pet Sounds! GAS was packed- standing room only for this lovely performance this past Sunday afternoon.

This loving tribute to The Beach Boys' classic 1966 album Pet Sounds will be performed instrumentally by Christine Bougie (guitar), Dafydd Hughes (wurlitzer), Julia Hambleton (clarinets) and Andrew Downing (cello). The quartet first performed the Pet Sounds album in 2010 and it has since become an annual tradition.
Check out the photos below from last Sunday's performance. Thanks to Julia for organizing!

Speaking of Julia- sadly this was the last of the series for Julia who is leaving us to pursuit academic challenges.
How fitting then, that Pet Sounds was available to perform this last show, a loving tribute from a much loved member of GAS. We wish you well Julia and will miss you terribly. Julia's last day is this Sunday July 26.

What a night!
Fortunate to say the least, to host Jory Nash @GAS, performing older as well as brand new tunes that will appear on his upcoming recording.
The evening began beautifully with Nancy Dutra and her gorgeously sultry voice and guitar.
It was lovely to have an evening of guitar and voice from both performers -intimate but the nonetheless powerful.
Thanks to Frank and Julia for organizing this event and thanks to both performers- very special people.
A perfectly fabulous weekend of really great music by really, really great Toronto musicians ( and very nice folks to boot!)

GAS MUSIC presents...JORY NASH with special guest NANCY DUTRA

8:00pm - 10:30pm
Admission $10 (at the door)
"Masterful storytelling with rich segues into brilliant and captivating songs. A Jory Nash live show is a joy to experience! It's always a complete stage show - thoughtful, brilliant songs punctuated with clever and entertaining stories. The recordings are brilliant but Jory gives it all on stage." - Liz Scott, Eaglewood Folk Festival AD
Jory Nash is an award-winning singer-songwriter and storyteller who blends elements of folk, jazz, blues, pop & soul into an original stew of sound. He has recorded 7 critically acclaimed albums, including his newest CD Little Pilgrim, which was nominated for a 2013 Canadian Folk Music Award. His 2009 album New Blue Day was named Penguin Eggs Magazine Critic’s Choice Album of the Year and was also nominated for Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Producer. He is also a previous winner of the OCFF Songs From The Heart Award.
Nancy Dutra’s debut CD, 'Time Will Tell', has charted on the Euro-Americana chart and has received glowing reviews from such publications as No Depression, Exclaim, Now Magazine, Roots Music Canada and The Alternate Root. The album features ollaborations with acclaimed Canadian songwriter Ron Sexsmith and celebrated U.S. songwriter Kevin Welch. The spare, lean strength of her concise songs derives partly from her Portuguese heritage. From an early age, Dutra always enjoyed the stripped-down, folk-blues feel of fado music that her parents played for her, especially the saudade– the emotional peak of the song where the singer fully, truly reveals herself. She goes deep, and real, and it's powerful stuff.

GAS MUSIC presents...MIDCOAST + NOT THE MOON
Friday July 11th, 2014
8:00 - 11:00pm
Admission $7 ($5 for students)
"...a refreshing mix of the traditional and the modern, jazz and non-jazz"
- Bloody Underrated
Where freedom meets structure, elegance meets energy, depth meets simplicity; this is the place Midcoast calls home. Comprised of a collective of emerging jazz musicians from Toronto, the group’s musicality and skill creates a live sound bursting with power and emotion. Having just released their debut full length album “Steps”, and completing their FIND second eastern-Canadian tour, Midcoast is on their way to becoming a staple of Canada’s jazz consciousness.
Not The Moon brings in all of their musical influences to present a fusion of jazz, electronic, hip-hop and groove music. The music takes the audience on an exciting and dynamic journey and each performance is fueled by the emotions and vibes of the particular night. The group was chosen to represent Canada as part of the Atina Jazz Festival in Italy in 2012 and have a weekly residency at Poetry Jazz Cafe.
