SONTAG SHOGUN
Sunday April 20th, 2014

Thanks to Jeremy Young of Sontag Shogun for contacting us. We were (are) thrilled to have had these three fabulous guys be part of our birthday month celebrating two years on Gerrard St. E
It was a great (Easter) Sunday evening- if you get a chance to check them out, check them out!!
SONTAG SHOGUN (Brooklyn, NY) is an ambient, electronic piano trio comprised of Jeremy Young, Jesse Perlstein & Ian Temple. Pooling their influences from modern classical, improvised and ambient musical spheres, they create long-form shape-shifting compositions that are at times lush and melodic, as well as textural and unpredictable. They have improvised with artists as diverse as Matana Roberts, Tom Carter, Aki Onda as well as a collective of Japanese contemporary video artists. Sontag Shogun performs alongside black and white video-loop collages from films and archival footage, embracing the evocative and emotive nature of their melodic textures. They make music to dream away to, or from.

The featured a special performance of Quartet For 5 Paint Brushes" by Jeremy Young. An interpretational work for 4-person ensemble playing 5 unamplified paint brushes.
