Novembears, by Adrianna Prosser

On April 27 GAS hosted a public reading for the work-in-progress Novembears kids show by Adrianna Prosser:

Novembears is an interactive children’s puppet show that follows the story of little Annabelle who turns into a growly, irritable, cranky bear every time November comes around. In fact, she turns into a Novembear.

Novembears will look at Seasonal Affective Disorder in children, and how having big feelings can make us feel like a novembear. This show gives young audiences the vocabulary to recognize in themselves what depression may feel like and encourages self regulation and talking about their feelings.

Susan Macpherson: Retrospective Works In Clay & Paper, April 2-20

Artist Statement

My work in clay feels like a natural extension of my long life in dance. I remember one of my ceramic teachers at George Brown College, Debby Black, observing that the qualities she found in my clay pieces included “movement and elegance”. I found myself thinking: “Good; my dance life has simply morphed into a new form”.

Another ceramic teacher, Jane Agnew, suggested I do some figure drawing – she felt that would help develop my eye for my work in clay. I subsequently went regularly to the weekly open life-drawing sessions at the Gerrard Art Space gallery, where several of the drawings you see here were created.

Some of the work in this retrospective show was made several decades ago, and some is very recent. The clay dancing figures are reminiscent of my lengthy career in contemporary dance.

This show is not to be missed! Susan's exquisite pieces are going fast so please come on down and have a look before everything has a red dot!

Show closes Sunday April 20.
