ReVision, ReDiscovery, ReCurrence: Works by Elizabeth Forrest

GAS is currently displaying works by Elizabeth Forrest.

ReVision, ReDiscovery, ReCurrence

Artist statement:

It is art that makes life, makes interest, makes importance....and I know of no substitute whatever for the force and beauty of its process.     Henry James

Problem solving is one of the many demands of printmaking. Often the artist moves forward through trial and error. To this end, I have always run the matrix woodblock through various printed states called "proofs", towards a final commitment, that is completed image.

Having recently moved, I have necessarily sorted through several decades of work that remained in storage drawers. Amongst many editions of prints were such proofs that now provide the raw materials for the recent work of collage and assemblage presented in this exhibition.

A selection of photographic images taken on my travels to Japan, Newfoundland, Cuba, and Crete, combined with wall mounted, cropped, colour proofs reflect not only the format and randomness of shared images on social  media to which we voluntarily expose ourselves daily, but more personally, the chaotic threshold that energizes creative work.

Elizabeth's show will be on until June 2nd, if you haven't had the chance to see the show please come on by.

Here is a sneak peek of the show's reception on May 16.
