Carolyn Riddell, pressure / sensitive until May 31.

A suite of woodblock Chine-collĂ© /mixed media prints and woodblock 'plates' are on display. Constructed wooden printers "plates" (framed in gilded wood) have been built and configured suggesting forms such as saw blades, parasols, pinwheels and kaleidoscopes.

This suite of woodblocks, embellished with watercolour, gouache and perforations are for me, as potent as the original prints pulled from their woodblock surface.

Floral and geometric motifs are inspired in part by traditional wall paper and fabric designs as well as natural and architectural forms.  Manifestations of the original prints include layers of fine oriental washi paper fused during the printing process. The unique print is a result, through pressure of an etching press, incorporating of layers of water~based pigment and washi paper onto 100% cotton fiber Somerset  Satin paper.

I reference a wide range of influences including the work of Raoul Dufy, Cy Twombly, Tony Scherman and Shahziah Sikander.

I also pull resources from my extensive travels throughout Europe, Turkey and India.
