Great Music at GAS

Local musicians Sam Cash, Woodshed and Borsky Cai bring the party to GAS, Saturday June 23
We're excited and honoured that Sam Cash and his compatriots are joining us for a midsummer fundraiser. Hope to see you there.

"Sam Cash's songwriting captures a youthful angst, filtered through a compassionate eye... confident, natural use of simple, eloquent language that you'd expect from someone with many more years behind them."
--Hawksley Workman

"The Woodshed Orchestra have this amazing ability to make real life sound like the best musical in the world. I can't name another group of people who sound so joyous together, get to some essential truths about living, and dance their pants off doing it."
--Vish Khanna, CBC Radio3/ Exclaim Magazine

SAM CASH
Growing up immersed in the Toronto music scene due to the profession of his parents, Sam Cash began writing songs at a very early age. Particularly drawn to lyrics and melody, Sam Cash's debut album “Teenage Hunger” is full of compassion, imagery and artistic observations about the world around him. Written while working at a gas station in downtown Toronto while finishing high school, this is a strong debut record from the next generation of Canadian songwriters. Cash's attention to detail, humour and honest vocal delivery is what sets him apart. “Teenage Hunger” was produced and recorded by Dave Clark (The Rhostatics, Gord Downie and the Country of Miracles) and features some stellar playing by Neil Quin (Zeus), Afie Jurvanen (Bahamas), Josh Finlayson (Skydiggers), Serena Ryder and Hayden as well as contributions from Cash's close circle of musical friends and accomplices, many of whom he first met in high school. This support from the Toronto music community is part of what makes this record special. Just listening to it, one can feel the love and camaraderie that went into the making of it.

WOODSHED ORCHESTRA
The Woodshed Orchestra is an ecstatic soul-filled communal multi-headed celebration emancipation experience. The Woodshed will take you higher and make you feel the love you need to succeed. Yes it will. The Woodshed will light up your tree, push all the right buttons, stroke your ego till you come to your senses and start to sing and dance with visions of sugar plum love making times dancing in your mind that seem so real to the taste, touch and feel that you’ll shout in happiness and cry tears of joy for being alive.

BORSKY CAI
Borsky Cai is a brilliant and joyful young musician comfortable and ready to play anything from the Beatles to Bach.  Equally adept at both piano and guitar, he has been a musical bright light in his high school community for many years.  He has performed at Nathan Phillips Square, Scarborough Arts Council Events, the Sheraton Centre Hotel and Toronto music clubs such as the Tranzac.  He is an exuberant and inspiring performer – capable of moving audiences through the power of his love of music.

  1. What's the fundraiser for?

    1. The fundraiser is for the gallery, as well as the musicians. GAS is a non-profit gallery, and does not receive funding from outside sources, therefore we rely solely on memberships and rentals. As we are the new kid on the block, we are hoping a fundraiser will help us find our legs, until we have built our membership base. The bands wanted to help and we wanted to help them too.
